Responsive Website Redesign

I was tasked to build a responsive website for an Irish dance start up company, taking research from current and prospective users and building a design system the company can use going forward.

User Research

I spoke to the owner and some of the current and prospective clients to gather an understanding of what is currently working, what could be improved on and what are the current pain points.

I learned that the customers who want to join the online platform wanted updates as to when the programme would be launched. Also, some customers didn’t know that there would be an online platform and thought it was just an in person experience. Some of the feedback said they were often confused booking the classes and to make it more clearly labelled and straight forward to know what you were booking.

Pain Points

Lack of Updates

I come to the website often to see if the online platform is ready. It would be great to get an update when it is.

In Person Location

Sometimes I’m confused when I’m trying to book a class as it isn’t obvious the class is in Dublin.

Offering knowledge

I didn’t realise their was going to be an online platform. I thought it was just a Dublin thing.

Working Process

Based on the research and the different services the business offered, it was important to keep the website concise and ensure that what the business was about and it’s offering was at front and centre. By keeping a simple, clean website design, I was able to simplify the user steps. I first created low fidelity wireframes, getting the owners input and brand ideas, before bringing my ideas to Figma where I made low fidelity prototypes. From there, when tested, I iterated on the feedback and made hi-fidelity prototypes which led to the final product.

Final Design

Findings & Learnings

I learned how to build out a brand design system for a client and working with them to make their vision come to life. Also, finding the balance between implementing the key details based on the business’s needs and goals while also ensuring the users needs were front and centre was key.

I learned that taking each step in the design journey and implementing key techniques, from wireframing and getting feedback before bringing the design to Figma, to building personas and getting real feedback from all stakeholders, to empathy maps and user journey maps which all led to how I built the final design.
